Assisted-Living Monitoring System

When a distributor of assisted-living monitoring systems determined that currently available products did not provide the features that would enable assisted-living facility owners to reliably – and unobtrusively – track and communicate the activities of their elderly residents, even from a distance, it turned to Advanced Product Design & Manufacturing, Inc. The distributor's wish list reflected its customers' needs –

A security system that would prevent wandering from the facility.
A new state-of-the-art transmitter design that did not require individual tuning.
A sturdy door controller to replace the existing, easily damaged controller.
A robust central monitoring system that would integrate all the new features.
Lower product and installation costs.
Exclusive ownership of the new hardware and software designs.

It was a scope of work that tested APD&M's engineering creativity and its mission of Turning Ideas Into Reality for OEM manufacturers in the Mid-Atlantic Region for two decades.The solution:

A system that includes small transmitting devices worn by the patients, a monitoring device to ensure that all appropriate doors were locked, and a central-networked device to observe all of the individual door monitors.
A more accurate integrated micro/RF transmitter device, and housed in a new case design that could be domestically sourced (replacing a less-reliable design fabricated offshore). Its consistent performance in RF transmission in existing installations made that step simpler and less costly.
A metal enclosure for flush- and wall-mount installations – plus an indestructible keypad (replacing the fragile, plastic predecessors).
Utilizing the same technology, advanced electronics and sturdy metal enclosures developed in response to the customer's specified needs, APD&M also implemented additional local and system functionality enhancements..
Reduced cost for the product and its installation, while also significantly decreasing the system's life-cycle cost!
Exclusive rights to the new hardware and software designs, which assured predictable future product costs and availability.

APD&M provided additional "reality" to its customer: The solution to the original challenge developed into a family line of system door-locking units and transmitter reader, system input, and remote keypad devices that the distributor now offers.
